B|L Research note: "Performance issue"
Context for issue #2 (Work in Progress; will be revisited as things progress)
This is a research note exploring some of the thinking shaping issue #2.
It contains background information, expanded thinking and footnotes and will be updated and revised as the magazine deadline closes in.
These research notes can read more pretentious than the magazine article as they are the work to get the steak on a plate, not the steak on the plate.

As Border|Land issue #2 starts to take shape, two of the central lenses through which the magazine views things is the following.
In a multi-polar world nothing & nobody is too sacred for critical analysis.
From a Unipolar world perspective driven by Anglo US culture + tech we are now in a multi-polar world where the East, Global South and the Internet have syphoned off that Unipolar monopoly.
Why competence and performance?
Mostly personal experiences here and there that grew into something in my head and then found confirmation bias online, but are not mainstream yet.
One experience was me asking about potholes.
The same strip of road near our house was sealed off for repairs for the 2nd time since we moved into this area in July 2022. As I was curious, I asked one of the workers why they were back so soon.
“More trucks, less money do to it proper and nobody to do the work” was his reply, “but, I’ve only got a few years left, so I don’t mind”.
